Account and Data Deletion
This page explains, for the smartphone app “Diverie” (the “App”) provided by Pinelet (the “Operator”), how to delete your account, what data is deleted, and what data remains after deletion and for how long.
1. How to Delete Your Account
You can delete your account from the App at any time.
- Open the App, tap the menu (≡) at the top right of “Profile”, then tap “Settings” → “Delete Account”.
- Review the confirmation message and tap “Delete”.
- On the final confirmation, tap “Delete Permanently”.
Deletion takes effect immediately and cannot be undone.
If you cannot open the App
If you cannot delete your account from the App (for example, because you have uninstalled it or cannot sign in), please email [email protected] from the email address registered to your account and ask us to delete the account. After confirming that the sender address matches the email address registered to the account, the Operator will delete the account and reply to let you know. If you cannot send from your registered email address (for example, if you signed in with Apple and chose to hide your email address), please include your user ID in the App, and we will explain how to verify your identity.
2. Data That Is Deleted
When you delete your account, the following data is deleted:
- The App’s sign-in information (your email address and the App’s records used for Sign in with Apple / Google)
- Your profile (display name, user ID, and profile picture)
- Photos and videos you posted (including those posted to tours created by other users, along with derived files such as thumbnails and any stored original 4K files)
- Your logs (dive records and the marine life you recorded)
- Tags on other users’ photos and videos indicating that you appear in them
- Your information registered as a buddy in other users’ logs
- Your tour memberships (you are removed from the tours’ members)
- Cover images you uploaded from the tour creation or editing screen for tours you created (the tours themselves are kept for other members, as described in Section 3. A cover chosen from a tour’s photos and videos is treated as data of the person who posted that photo or video, and is deleted as described above if you posted it)
- Your Umitomo connections (you are also removed from the other person’s Umitomo list) and the Umitomo requests you sent or received
- Your notes in “Marine life” and the “Wishlist” and “Loved” marks
- Block settings (both users you blocked and users who blocked you)
- Your in-app notifications (both those you received and those sent to other users because of your actions), your notification settings, and the device identifiers registered as destinations for push notifications
- The record of your paid plan (Plus) status
Please note that the Operator cannot delete photos or videos that other users have saved to their own devices. The App’s connection shown in your Apple ID or Google Account settings can be removed from those settings.
3. Data That Remains After Deletion and Retention Periods
Data kept for other tour members
- Tours you created (including their names and descriptions) and dive records you created (including those in other users’ tours; date, dive site, weather, water temperature, etc.): kept without an expiry date so that other tour members can continue to use them, with the creator shown as “退会したユーザー” (Japanese for “deleted user”).
- Names of dive points you registered: kept without an expiry date as names that other users can also choose at the same dive site.
- Your account’s internal ID number and registration date: kept without an expiry date, separated from your email address and profile, so that the data above stays consistent.
Data kept as records of the Operator’s handling
- Records of photos and videos you reported (including the reason and any description you entered when reporting): kept as records of how reports were handled, with the reporter identified only by your account’s internal ID number (separated from your email address and profile), without an expiry date until the reported photo or video is deleted.
Data kept in third-party services
- Purchase records: records of paid plan (Plus) purchases remain with the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Google), and with RevenueCat, which the Operator uses to manage purchases. Their retention periods are determined by each provider.
- Push notification delivery: push notifications are delivered to your device through a delivery service (Expo) via Apple Push Notification service or Firebase Cloud Messaging. The text of each notification sent (such as the nickname of the user who caused the event and the name of the tour) and the identifier of the destination device pass through these providers. Their retention periods are determined by each provider.
- Usage analytics: records of your actions in the App (such as opening the App or saving a log), along with the App version and OS type, are sent to an analytics service (PostHog). The only information sent to identify you is an identifier derived from your internal ID number, without your email address or display name. This data is kept for up to 7 years.
- Report notifications: when a photo or video is reported, a notification including the display names of the reporter and the poster is sent to the Operator’s work communication tool (Slack). These notifications are kept without an expiry date.
- Deletion request emails: if you request account deletion by email, that email remains in the Operator’s mailbox (Gmail) as a record of the request. It is kept without an expiry date.
Data kept temporarily
- Server operation records (logs) and files whose upload was in progress: automatically erased within about 30 days of deletion.
About backups
- We do not currently keep database backups (if we keep them in the future, data in backups will be erased within 30 days at most).
4. Cancelling a Paid Plan (Plus)
Deleting your account does not automatically cancel a paid plan (Plus) subscription. Please cancel it separately from Subscriptions in the App Store or from Subscriptions in Google Play. Until you cancel, the store will continue to renew and charge for it.
5. Contact
For inquiries about account deletion, please contact [email protected].
